Geocaching Event

Oops, I Forgot About This:
We, along with 3Snipe Hunters, went to our first geocaching event just over two weeks ago (Saturday, April 16th). This event was to commemorate the 100 years of the Indy Parks and to kick-off 100 geocaches throughout the Indy Parks. We found 11 of these caches that day and our first FTF (First to Find)! The event was also cool because we got to meet several other geocachers, including "Cecil-EGCM" (another Lilly fellow) and "superstutz" (a colleague of my wife's that we didn't even know geocached, nor did he know that we did either).

I'm waiting patiently for my patches to still arrive. As soon as they do, I plan on beginning to place some local caches. A possible theme I'm working on has to do with famous scientists. I'm thinking of starting with Sir Isaac Newton (he basically created macro-physics as we know it), Galileo Galilei (the father of modern science and the grandfather of modern physics), or Sir Francis Bacon (who along with Galileo came up with the Scientific Method as a means to discovering truths). Marie Curie, Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg, Stephen Hawking, Edmond Halley, Johannes Kepler, Nicholaus Copernicus, Tycho Brahe...there are so many more that I could choose from, so I'll have to create a lot more caches that I anticipated!!

It's Itinerary Time!

Our next stop on the itinerary, after Niagara Falls is...

Fort Stanwix, NY
&
Saratoga National Park, NY

Fort Stanwix is the first of many Revolutionary War sites that we will visit. It was here that the Colonials were able to repel a siege by the British and helped lead to the British defeat at the Battles of Saratoga. Most believe that the defeat of the British troops at the Battles of Saratoga, where the British General John Burgoyne surrendered to General Horatio Gates of the American Army, was the turning point of the Revolutionary War... and we get to explore these historic locations!!!
